Protecting local transport from Sadiq Khan’s cuts

Parts of our local area rely heavily on our bus network and in December 2017 Melanie started getting emails about the Number 170 bus. The Westbound route had been changed leaving out whole sections and causing distress to commuters, mums taking kids to school, and leaving nearby sheltered housing residents more isolated. After 1,000 signatures in a week she persuaded Transport for London to drop it’s plans and give people back their bus.

Labour run TfL, back in 2018, then tried to cut the Number 19 bus from Holborn to Battersea. 2,200 signatures later, more trips to TfL and the London Assembly resulted in the axe being lifted, much to the relief of local residents.

“I am very pleased that the voices of nearly a thousand local people have been heard this morning and that the mighty TfL has listened! I also want to thank TfL for having had the courtesy to apologise for cancelling the service with no notice, causing confusion and inconvenience to local people in north Battersea. I will be holding TfL to their promise to have 170 buses running westbound on the right route from next week.”
